Cucumber & Jalapeño Margarita

I finally had one. It took me 27 years, but it finally happened. Over the weekend, I had myself a Chevy Chase moment.
I don’t play golf. I’m not (usually) inclined to dress up in shark costumes. Decorating my house for Christmas was the only chance I had.
As Chevy once noted, tis the season to be “Mary”. Well, standing atop my roof on Saturday, staple gun in hand, bundle of Christmas lights strung about my torso, I couldn’t help but feel proud of the fact that I’ve finally grown up to appreciate the beautiful simplicity of an 80-foot extension cord. Eleven strings of lights, two automatic timers, and only a single staple through the meatiest part of my palm. Chevy would be proud.
Yes, I hung Christmas lights this weekend. Or, more accurately, I practiced some seriously amateur electrical work over the course of a very frustrating six hours. As a result, though, our house looks quite festive. Not exactly Griswold-esque, but decent enough.
In fact, I think I deserve some tequila.
The original title of this post was “Shot of Tequila”. But, considering all of my recipes – at least to this point – have included multiple ingredients, that just wasn’t going to cut it. So, I whipped up a cucumber and jalapeño margarita (i.e. tequila mixed with other crap so it qualifies as a “recipe”). Actually, though, this thing turned out delicious. The cucumber cooled off whatever heat was present as a result of muddling the jalapeño, and the agave nectar is always a welcomed departure from the overly sugary margs to which you might be accustomed. (In general, I think it’s only appropriate that you sweeten a margarita with agave – the same plant from which the tequila itself is made.)
Anyhow, make yourself a margarita, get up on your roof, and give those string lights hell.
We’re going to have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas…
